A Mad Hatter Tea Party and Some Delicious Treats

This was one BUSY weekend!  Sunday was my girlfriend Ali's bridal shower.  Ali's parents and the bridal party did a beautiful job with the food and all of the creative Alice in Wonderland decorations. It was quite the Mad Hatter Tea party!  I whipped up some chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with red and white vanilla buttercream icing, some yummy sugar crusted scones, and some rich chocolate fudge brownies with vanilla buttercream icing.

I'll post more pictures when I get some better ones!

See you Wednesday for some delicious lemon and herb roasted chicken!

Catch Up

Whew!  It's been a rollar coaster ride the last week and a half!  After finally recovering from strep, my peanut got a little cold, and we had to drive down to Charm City for our great friends Thomasina and Poirot's wedding!  While the wedding was beautiful and great fun, Ms. Laela was a little listless and sleepy, instead of her super-fun lively self.  Poor kid couldn't sleep the night before the wedding because of her cold and sleeping in a strange place, so of course, I didn't sleep much either!   Thanks to lots of coffee, some help from the fabulous Lizy and Wyatt, and driving Laela around Charm City so she would nap, Laela was the sleepy version of her sweet, social self.

After this crazy weekend, I realized that I never posted any of my Labor Day goodies photos!  So here they are!

The trouble with writing this post is that my husband is looking at the pictures going "hey now!  When are you making me some goodies?!"

Guess I'd better get myself back in the kitchen!  (Whoa!  That was very 1950's of me.  Do I need to burn a bra or something?)

Starting Wednesdays I'm going to have a recipe a week.  If you have any recipe requests or questions, just email me and I'll post the answers to your cooking and baking questions.

Have a great Monday!!

Banana Toss

Oh brownies. I make the easiest, best brownies ever. So of course, I've decided to reinvent the wheel and try a new recipe. My daughter was sitting in her high chair nibbling on some bananas while I mixed the same old recipe together, when I decided that I'd try to marry my Mom's triple layer brownie recipe with mine. My Mom would shoot me if I shared her recipe, so let's just say that they're triple layer sin. One of the layers involves a pretty serious chunk of oatmeal at the bottom. It gives her brownies this amazing crunch, and helps hold them together when you cut them (instead of getting a chocolately goop like homemade brownies done right tend to do). I got to thinking and decided that brownies with an oatmeal cookie at the bottom would be pretty great.

My daughter decided that they needed a little extra something...bananas. Please keep in mind that Laela is only 6 months old, so her idea of Mommy needing something is throwing it at me. Or flinging, depending on your angle.

I'm not one to mess with my brownies once they've been spread in the pan, so in they went with the bananas..and you know what? They rocked everyone's socks.

Lesson learned. The kid's only 6 months old, and she's already a culinary genius.
